The Story of a National Crime Audio Recording
Recorded in May 2022, 100 years after the publication of the original text, this reading is the first ever recording of The Story of a National Crime. It was recorded in a studio at McMaster University by Miles Morrisseau, a Métis journalist from the Métis homeland in Grand River, Manitoba.
Morriseau’s approach to the recording was to emulate an English speaking Elder who would have read this pamphlet to his community in 1922. Along with the importance of Indigenous oral traditions, this historical context provides deep layers of significance to the reading.
Along with the reading, the video features biographies and definitions for names, places, and concepts mentioned. This glossary is available as a document further along on this page.
